When Martha and I moved to Rockford in 1969, we immediately fell in love with the place. We felt quite safe here and the opportunities looked great for us and our growing family. Cost of housing and utilities were a real eye opener. Our backyard ran into Alpine Park, so our kids had a huge area in which to play. Educational opportunities were varied and totally acceptable. Rockford Park district was unbelievable, along with its very affordable golf courses.

As time went on, we did discover the fly in the ointment. We discovered Rockford was a myriad of could have, should have, would have scenarios. From the Swedes turning down Northern Illinois University in
Rockford to where I90 should go. Kieth Creek flooding every few years always prompted a chorus of we should do something about that.

In the las few years, I have noticed that these things are getting done. I wish Martha was still here to see that should have, would have, and could have, have become a thing of the past.
