Julie had graduated from Purdue and was out in the working world. Stacey was just beginning as a freshman at Purdue getting used to being on her own. School was going well, and she was getting involved in joining a sorority and acclimated to campus life.

Then she met Scott, and they hit it off quite well. They started enjoying school as a couple taking part in the social life of Purdue. It was her first love and life was good. She even talked me out of flyer miles to go visit him in Ohio.

Then apparently, she caught him dating someone else. I know it had to be devastating for her. She even called home. Unfortunately for her Martha wasn’t there, and I took the call. I listened to her tale of woe and gave her this advice. Sometimes it is better to have loved and lost than to have loved and won. She replied, “What the hell does that mean?” I told her that today she doesn’t know, but someday she will.

As I was escorting her down the aisle to marry Shane, she told me she knew what I meant. I replied, “It’s about time”.
