After watching the Super Bowl last night, it brought back some memories. One thing I remember is that a ticket to Super Bowl 1 was $12, and the lowest price for Super Bowl LIX was $4000. Although there really never was a Super Bowl 1, it started with Super Bowl 2 the next year. The escalating costs never cease to amaze me.

Martha and I belonged to the Madison Wisconsin Packer Backers in the late 70s and early 80s. We would go to the annual dinner to meet the players. I was always amazed at how big they were, or how big I wasn’t. Bart Starr attended one of them, and Martha got an autographed picture from him which she treasured.

To attend a game, we would drive from Rockford to Madison and meet the bus there. I would give the bus driver $50. For this sum we would get a bus ride to Green Bay and back, two tickets to the game, and two dinners at a local restaurant. The last MLB game I went to I had to pay $50 to park the car.

Just being in Lambeau Field for a game is a happening.

I’m really inspired along with your writing abilities and also with the format in your blog. Is that this a paid subject or did you customize it your self? Either way keep up the nice quality writing, it’s rare to see a great weblog like this one these days!

Midget surprise

Bill Mitchell

The year I was coaching midget hockey in the Rockford Hockey club I had a pretty good team. Midgets were fifteen and sixteen year olds. The nicest advantage of coaching midgets was many of them had drivers’ licenses and drove to practices. […]
