When Martha accepted the position of managing the Beloit Visitor and Convention Bureau, it was at first a new job. However, as time went on she fell totally in love with Beloit. We even looked a ways to move to Beloit, but in the end, it would have been too disruptive to our family. As for me I continued to be supportive and amazed at the creative juices she exhibited. She worked at inventing and supporting many new ideas and getting more fulfillment in the existing ones.

One of the major events was the Beloit film Festival. This year it will be its twentieth year. This is now known as BIFF. (Beloit International Film Festival) I was amazed at with all the competition from other cities around the country how quickly this became a real thing. The number and names of celebrities that attended was also cause for celebration.

She had me volunteering on the selection committee for which films they would show. I was amazed at the variety and quality of the films sent in for approval for selection to the play bill.

They had a lot of work turning restaurants and stores into little movie houses for the exposition. Once again I was amazed at the enthusiasm and cooperation of the city to get these things done. She had a marvelous way of looking at how things can get done rather than what problems do we have to get them done. It was quite a lesson to me.

I can’t explain how much I miss her, but am willing to bet there is a host of Beloit people who do too.
