A friend of mine who has passed on told me many years ago that when he was eight years old he decided there is no God. I don’t know the logic of determination that he used to get there, but he maintained it for his entire life. He was probably one of the best-read persons I have known but tended to only read what agreed or supported his opinion on any subject. We had many discussions on the subject with neither of us being moved to the other side. They were probably some of the friendliest disagreements we had over many subjects.
My assessment of his observable life is that he was a very moral and generous person. Many acts of kindness he had been observed of doing. I can’t think of an occasion where I could accuse him of being sinful. Of course I had only seen his public life. I used to tell him that if he was right and I was wrong, I hadn’t lost a lot. However, if I was right and he was wrong he could be in deep trouble.
When you think about the number of people who have never been exposed to religion of any kind, do you think they would be condemned to eternal damnation? I think it comes down to obedience to some kind of natural law. You can’t steal from someone or murder them or cause them problems. I believe that they would be entitled to an eternal reward. I can’t judge a person for their choice of religions or lack of one.
I guess when I pass on, I will find the answer to this question
