I used to belong to a golf group which consisted of seven Canadians and me. We would go to Myrtle Beach S.C. for a week and try to get in as much golf as possible and drink the State dry. In the beginning we had two brothers and one who was not the most prolific golfer, but a heck of a nice guy, was always giving out tips to help us improve our game. One year he brought down one of those big camcorders and was videoing all of us. One afternoon he brought his camcorder into Gary’s and my room where we all had convened to drink and watch a golf show. He connected the camcorder to our tv and proceeded to show us the errors of our game. We finally had enough liquid refreshments that we all lost track of time. Wayne ended up leaving his camcorder in our room and went to his.

The next morning early Gary and I took it out to the beach and filmed monkey shots of the girls sunbathing. We put it back where Wayne had left it. We didn’t see it for the rest of the trip. But we later heard that Wayne had shown the films to his wife. He didn’t come the next year.

It was great group, and no prisoners were taken. Thin skin didn’t wear very well. The majority of us worked in the same business. The manager of our rep group was a member and several of his customers that purchased our products. There was only one instance where one of his customers asked if I would sell direct to him. I told him we were an honorable company and didn’t do things like that. He was OK with it.

After a time two of the Canadians dropped out and were replaced by two Yanks. At this time, we divided the group in US vs Canada. We yanks got Gary who was from Toronto, as the other Canadians said Toronto wasn’t really a part of Canada. It made for some interesting competition and always came down to the last shot of the week.

I miss the group and the fun. I will share more stories of those years in the future.

Yes, many good times in Myrtle Beach and then it got real good when we started going to Florida (Kissimmee). Don’t forget the French Baguette.

After retiring I carried a cell phone for my former employer for seven years solving customer service issues. Every service manager in our industry in North America had my cell phone number. Actually, the calls didn’t stop until I had been retired […]
