Here in Wesley Willows in the new section where Martha and I lived They have a little ritual every week called drinks on the driveway. It occurs on Fridays when the weather is warm enough. We take turns and these are scheduled by Patti. They put plastic flamingos in the yard of the host so there is no confusion as to who is hosting. It lasts for one hour, this year it is from 4 PM to 5 PM. Previous years it was 5 PM to 6 PM. I believe the change was to accommodate those who had standing restaurant reservations for dinner.
In the past the host parties would put out some snacks to go along with the drinks the guest brought with them. Last year there were some complaints about being required to supply snacks, and so it was requested that we don’t. Martha always loved these little get togethers and the sharing. So, in her honor when it was my turn, I served snacks and wine. My daughters had reminded me that you don’t invite people to your house and don’t at least offer them something. I noticed that this year the schedule doesn’t request that we don’t do it. I am happy with that. I will be serving snacks.
It is a good thing this get together as it allows us to talk with one another about life and living in the Willows. Little problems are resolved without becoming bigger things. I think if this practice abounded throughout our country and its cities, we would have a lot less troubles. Think about that!
