A little over 6 years ago my wife Martha began pestering me to think about moving to a retirement community. As a typical macho male, I wasn’t interested. The subject to the best of my knowledge was done. However, Martha began a thorough search of the field of retirement communities pretty much everywhere. After she had completed her search, she began a campaign of pointing out the problems of living in a two-story house, not only the maintenance, but the getting up and down stairs which had become a problem to both of us. So, I agreed to take a look at it.

We came out to Wesley Willows and met with the sales and marketing people. To say the least, I was impressed with the facilities and the support of the entire operation. I still wasn’t sold on that it was for us. However, we applied for a duplex and were accepted. As the old saying goes, “Happy wife, happy life”. I will go into the circus of selling and moving in later posts, but for now, we moved in.

The house and appliances were just what we wanted and needed. I was impressed with the quality of construction of the homes and apartments. The support staff could not have been nicer or more efficient. but, that didn’t turn out to be the real surprise.

Living here was nice. We met all our neighbors and didn’t find a bad apple in the barrel. Drinks on the driveway was a good experience and kept us in touch with one another.

The real secret to Wesley Willows occurred after Martha’s passing. As a result of my injuries, I had a regimen of 30 minutes in the gym, 15 minutes in the hot tub, and back to the house for a drink. This had been going very well, but one day after my drink I fell asleep in the Lazy Boy. The sun set and I was sound asleep. I was awakened by the phone ringing. It was Jose from next door. He didn’t see any lights on in the house and was concerned that something had happened to me. I assured him that I was okay and so grateful for his call.

The real secret to the Willows is that we all care about one another and watch out for one another and take care of one another. This can’t be bought anywhere.
