I assume you all have read how Martha and I met. It is still very firm in my mind. Shortly after that meeting, there was another event at Purdue. It was the Sadie Hawkins dance. This is where the girl invites the guy. I don’t know if they still have those at Purdue, but they should have. The week after our meeting, I got a call from Martha asking me if I wanted to go. Well of course I said yes. I had been planning on calling her for another date.
On the date of the dance she shows up at my dorm looking like a million dollars. She has the tickets, and a corsage for me. It was flower bouquet in a Sam Cook 45 rpm record. The title was “Twisting the night away”. I was floored. Throughout our life together she always came up with really neat ideas.
We went to the dance which was a really big affair. We did enter the twist contest but had a great time and didn’t even place. Later in the evening we went to a lounge downstairs where the Diamonds were playing. We ended up talking the night away.
