One particular day when Martha was working in her position as director of the Beloit Visitor and Convention Bureau she had some work out in the county surrounding Beloit Wisconsin. Having finished what, she was out there doing, she was headed back into Beloit. Unfortunately, she was stopped by a highway patrolman and given a ticket for speeding. This did little to make her day.
Driving back to her office, she was once again stopped. Thijs time by a Beloit policeman. He proceeded to give her a ticket for exceeding the 35-mph speed limit in town. This was the straw that broke the camel’s back. She decided enough was enough and decided to go home to our house in Rockford Illinois. Unfortunately, on the way home she was stopped for a third time, This time by an Illinois Highway Patrol Officer, who gave her a third ticket for the day.
When she got home, in an agitated state, she started in on me. She pointed out that i speed all the time, I have been stopped many times and only have one ticket to my name. I had no explanation for her. I don’t think there is one that would make any sense.
Then she said, “I cry, I show them the kid’s pictures, and it doesn’t make any difference”. They just kep on writing. I said to her, “the kids are 35 years old”.
I never brought this up again. We just paid the tickets and moved on.
