Yesterday I went with a couple of friends to Edwards Apple Orchard. It has been an annual event to go get my cider donut fix. However, it is a much more involved expedition. When you arrive, there is this very large building, and it is filled with all kinds of things to entice your senses. aisle after aisle is filled with jars attractively decorated to catch your eye. In addition to apples and apple cider you will find apple butter, salsa, jams, and fresh fudge. I have never seen so many ways to package rhubarb. My grandfather loved rhubarb, but no one else in the family even eats it. Maybe we should give it a try.
They sell apples by the half peck. They have over thirty varieties. It makes a really tough selection to which variety you want. They have the familiar Honeycrisp along with many other common varieties, and some of the more exotic like smitten. They all picked at their peak and packed for the store.
In the Cider Cellar, which is their restaurant, your senses are assailed with the aroma of pulled pork and apple pie. A selection of one of these with a hot cup of coffee is just what the doctor ordered. Following this you can venture into their cider mill and purchase a container of their delicious apple cider. Freshly squeezed and just waiting for you.
Before leaving the premises, you must go to the bakery and pick up a bag of their apple cider donuts. Make sure you get enough as you will be snacking on them on the way home. The aroma will just get you.
Youu will find yourself making this an annual trip. And why not?
