One weekend when Martha’s sister and her husband were visiting us, Mike who we called Big Daddy and I went to play a round of golf. We drove out to Ingersoll golf course on the west side of Rockford. For some reason it didn’t seem to have as much traffic as the other courses, so we thought we could get in a quick round. However, when we got there and signed up the line at the first tee was huge. We had just about decided to go in the clubhouse and get something to eat when we heard a bit of an argument going on with the starter.
It turns out that the next reserved time was held by a guy who had no legs. He actually played out of a special cart with a revolving seat allowing him to support himself on his artificial legs and play. I am not sure whether he could walk with his prosthetic legs or not. It turns out that none of the rest of his foursome had showed, and the starter would not let him go off as a single. No one else volunteered, so I said that Big Daddy and I would be happy to play with him. This satisfied the starter, and so Mike and i got to immediately play.
We were amazed at how well this gentleman played. Our only assistance required was to get his ball out of the cup. Although I thought this guy might have figured out a way. We played the entire eightenn holes, shook hands and parted ways.
On the way home Mike and I discussed our little complaints about aching legs and sore backs and realized, that they didn’t seem to be that big of a problem anymore.
