Living here at Wesley Willows is quite interesting. From the drinks on the driveway every friday in good weather to the many shows and entertainment they have for us. They also have a way of finding out who has an interesting background and having them to talk on the subject. My neighbor across the street was for many many years a nurse in the leper colony in Hawaii. They felt this would be of great interest to all, as the cure for leprosy has been around since 1943, and there has been little news about the colonies and victims.
Well, my neighbor spent a great deal of time getting ready to make her presentation and had rehearsed in ad infinitum. Then a week before the presentation she confided to me that she was scared to death to get up in front of a large group and talk. I suggested she play the ukulele for them to get them in the mood. She confessed that all those years in Hawaii and she never learned to play the ukulele.
So, I told her I could play a ukulele and when they introduced her, I would get up and play a little music for them to get them in the mood. So, when they introduced her, I got up and went to the mike and played and sang “Tiny Bubbles” and “My little grass shack in Kealakekua Hawaii”.
I don’t know how it affected the crowd, but she gave a marvelous performance with her presentation.
