Our annual golf trip to Myrtle Beach took a turn. The Canadians were complaining about the high cost of air fare getting to Myrtle Beach, and exchange rates. I told them I didn’t understand, it was only Canadian money. It is hard to feel for a group who refers to one of their currencies as a looney. However, I ws willing to go along with any changes they had in mind.
So, the next year we changed and went to Florida. Eventually we ended up staying in the Admiral Lehigh resort. There are many stories to tell including Leo’s birthday, but today we will talk about the Mirror Lakes golf course. Mirror Lakes opened in 1958 and is now closed. It had one significant feature being it’s hole number 11, which was 707 yards, par 6.
One year we were playing Mirror Lakes, and It was my turn to tee off on number 11. Putting everything I could into the drive, I hooked it. Unfortunately, there was a couple of houses on the left side of the hole. We all stood there listening for the sound of breaking glass or the thunk of a ball off of brick. WE didn’t hear anything for a while, then the sound of spraying water.
We jumped in our carts and drove over there. We discovered my ball had severed a PVC pipe that was connected to a solar heating system for the swimming pool. The pump was proceeding to empty the pool into the yard. We found the electrical box and disabled the pump. Then I went to the front door to tell the owner. The lady of the house came out and when she discovered what had happened, wanted us to help her take action against the resort to change the hole and remove the possibility of their house being hit.
I told her I couldn’t do that and gave her my insurance information. Then I notified the resort about the incident and called my insurance company. I had no idea what was going to ensue. The next day we drove by the house just to make sure we had all the details. To our surprise, the whole thing was fixed.
Turns out the lady of the house was the granddaughter of the owner of the resort, and things were just quietly repaired.
The next year on the same hole Robert hooked a drive and knocked a chunk out of the roof tile on the same house.

I remember that day well. You had a look on your face like a dog shitting razor blades.
