My wife and best friend after raising our kids into high school felt the need to conquer new worlds. She took a job as a desk clerk at the quality Inn. Due to local managerial problems the home office came in and cleaned house. They asked Martha if she could help hold things together until they restaffed. She agreed and when the dust settled, she was made manager of the hotel. Eventually the franchise was sold and she moved to Alpine Inn as manager, before moving to their sister property the Sweden House Lodge as manager.

With her experience, it wasn’t long before the newly organized Rockford Visitor and Convention bureau sought her as a member of their staff. She was very successful in many ventures including “On the Waterfront, and First Night” ventures helping put Rockford on the map.

Her reputation brought the opportunity for her to have her own bureau in Beloit Wisconsin. Her career there is legend as she remained there until retiring. Her accomplishments would take many pages to tell. I will tell them in following posts. She became the queen of Beloit and started many programs that put them on the map. The biggest was Visit Beloit which is alive and well today.

After her to soon passing, I went to a testimonial for her in Beloit. I was stunned and proud of my best friend’s accomplishments.

I loved reading this. I’m only 21, but I hope one day when I’m gone someone talks about me the way you talk about your Martha. This inspires me to live a life that someone would want to talk about. I’ll think about Martha when I live memorably. Thank you again for sharing, Bill. This blog is awesome.
