My three kids have been eaters of about anything that is put before them. I remember my brother growing up was a really picky eater, disrupting meals with his stubbornness. After a tour in the Marines, he would eat anything. He was smart enough to marry a great cook so he could have everything. My son’s kids are not picky at all, and I have never heard them protest anything that is put before them. My oldest daughter’s boys grew up with some items that they just would not eat. I have heard excuses like it is the texture or the taste or some other reason. Whatever it was, there was no getting them to even try it. My youngest daughter’s child while having moods at mealtime, I can’t remember her ever refusing to eat anything.

My wife only refused to eat blue cheese. She explained that something that smelled like an old sneaker and tasted like puke could not be eaten. We always had it in one form or another at the big family meals. I don’t remember when the change came, but almost unanimously, we all ate it. Then one Sunday family get together she started eating it and really liked it.

My two grandsons today will eat almost anything. I haven’t run across anything they turn down. don’t know when the change occurred, or even care. It must be one of those mysteries of life. I am just happy that it is one thing we don’t have to worry about anymore.
