When I was working for the Bell Telephone Laboratories in the early 60s, I worked in the coin telephone department. My boss was a guy by the name of Harold Hershey. Harold was an engineer from the city of Hershey Pennsylvania. His family was interestingly enough in the candy business. However, they were not in the business of making chocolate candy. they made the hard candies and were not even related to the chocolate Hershey’s.

Harold grew up learning how to repair and maintain the family machines for the production of hard candies. He took this experience off to college where he earned an engineering degree. He also was a bomber pilot for the country. While he didn’t see combat action he trained other pilots. I do remember that flying on business with him, he was never uncomfortable regardless of the flying conditions. I can’t say the same was true of me.
